About Rita Gray Learning & Development

Founded and led by Rita Gray, who is Turtle Mountain Chippewa and was raised on Coast Salish lands stewarded by the Puyallup and Muckleshoot Indian Tribes, Rita Gray Learning & Development brings a unique and powerful perspective to education and professional development. Raised in a King County Housing Authority complex, Rita has overcome multi-generational trauma rooted in colonization. She is a Bill Gates Millennium Scholar and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & Criminal Justice from Gonzaga University, as well as a Master’s of Education in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Rita’s professional journey includes working with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, where she led professional development for over 100 staff members, focusing on culturally relevant curriculum and indigenizing classrooms. Her approach integrates Indigenous cultural perspectives with Western education pedagogy, offering a holistic, inclusive learning experience.

Rita also worked for the City of Seattle, where she was hand-selected to plan, develop, and launch the groundbreaking Tribal Nations Training Program. Her work in indigenizing and decolonizing the City's practices was recognized at the City of Seattle’s 20th Race & Social Justice Summit in 2024. Additionally, she was a featured panel speaker at the 2023 International Women’s Day celebration.

With over a decade of experience in learning & development, Rita is skilled in public speaking, facilitation, project management, and the development of data-driven training programs. She specializes in indigenizing and decolonizing workspaces and classrooms, ensuring that education and training initiatives are both culturally relevant and impactful.

In addition to her professional expertise, Rita is a wife, mother, loyal friend, and passionate activist. She enjoys watching basketball, spending time on the land, and participating in txʷəlšucid (Twulshootseed) language classes offered by the Puyallup and Muckleshoot Indian Tribes. In September 2023, she and her husband became part of the first group of Indigenous people to climb Mount təqʷubəʔ (Mount Rainier).
